Imagine a place where time slows to the point you imagine you could see the wings of a humming bird as the blur of motion and stress of daily routine slips away.
Then imagine within that place you are sitting on a boat in the middle of a serene lake and the only sound is the occasional fish jumping.
Can you picture that? Then you can almost feel what it’s like to stay at Esperanza resort in Lithuania in Eastern Europe.

This is an interesting article and it’s great to see Lithuania being reviewed in such a positive light. There are a few errors, though. Prague is in the Czech Republic and Tallinn is in Estonia. Neither Poland nor the Czech Republic are Baltic States. The Lithuanian language is one of two Baltic languages and is very closely related to Latvian. And perhaps more political than geographic, but the term Eastern Europe is very vague and is no longer in favour, particularly when referring to Lithuania. Geographically, Lithuania is in Northern Europe.

Labas 🙂 I wished you been the sub editor when I submitted my article, who for some unknown reason changed that particular paragraph. For that reason I ummed and arred about posting here, but wanted to as my wife is Lithuanian and it’s such a great place to visit that. Northern Europe hmm interesting, happily guided by you on that. Lithuanian and Latvian, I know a wife that would argue very strongly with you on that point haha. Thanks for taking the time to read it, and for commenting.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, Scott. I can’t believe an editor changed something and introduced errors – how frustrating.
On the Northern Europe thing – I know there are lots of people that still say Eastern Europe, but technically it’s Northern Europe. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Europe). I’m not sure how your wife feels about it, but most Lithuanians I know dislike being referred to as Eastern European. And on the language, I’m not saying that Lithuanian and Latvian are the same, but they are both in the same language group (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltic_languages) and they share many similarities (whether or not your wife likes it!), so it’s just not correct to say Lithuanian “shares no common root with its neighbours”.
I do appreciate I’m being pedantic and if it was just a blog post I probably wouldn’t have commented, but with print media I feel there is a responsibility to be factually accurate. But I really am happy to see such a positive piece about Lithuania being presented to a new audience.
